Starting November 4, 2025, Transport Canada introduced a new certification framework to support Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight (BVLOS) operations without the need for a Special Flight Operations Certificate (SFOC).
RPASOTC is proud to offer specialized training to help drone pilots and organizations qualify for the Level 1 Complex Operations under this new category.

This course is designed for certified Advanced Operations pilots looking to expand their capabilities to include lower-risk BVLOS operations. These operations support a wide range of industrial, environmental, and infrastructure applications such as:

Course Overview
RPASOTC's Level 1 Complex Operations course includes:

Online self-paced study modules

Live virtual classroom sessions with our certified instructors

Flight simulation exercises and scenario-based planning

In-field training (where applicable) to reinforce operational planning and visual observer protocols

Preparation for the Transport Canada-administered Level 1 Complex Operations Pilot Certificate Exam
All training is aligned with Transport Canada TP 15530 and includes operational planning, risk assessment, detect and avoid strategies, contingency protocols, and compliance with CARs Part IX.

Prerequisites:
To register for this course, you must:

Hold a valid Advanced Operations Pilot Certificate

Be at least 18 years of age

Have successfully completed a Category 1 Medical Exam (for certain operations)

Demonstrate operational knowledge and flight proficiency in Visual Line-of-Sight (VLOS) missions
Certification Pathway:
Upon successful completion of our training and the Transport Canada exam, participants will be eligible to apply for:

RPAS Pilot Certificate – Level 1 Complex Operations
-
RPAS Operator Certificate – Level 1 (for organizations)
This certification allows you to operate medium-sized drones (25–150 kg) within visual line-of-sight and conduct certain BVLOS operations in isolated areas or along low-risk corridors, without an SFOC.
